It has been a while…and I miss you! As you may know from past posts, I am the primary caregiver for my mother who is living in a retirement facility in Connecticut with full on dementia. We are fortunate to have some amazing aides who help her and my stepfather 24/7. I manage the care, all of her affairs (yes, it’s tax season!) and make sure she knows she’s loved with visits at least once/week.
My husband and I also support my father who also requires 24/7 help and has been blessed with my older brother who is his primary caregiver. My honey and I travel from our home in Massachusetts once every two weeks to his home in Rhode Island to stay for a bit.
Things are progressing and Dad has had his challenges. Our brothers and I are planning to move him to a nursing facility sometime this summer.
And so the family scene has been a busy one… and a heart wrenching one, rich with gifts and lessons…for over 3 years now.
I know there are many who are in this same boat, many with situations that seem even more challenging. Some with young children to juggle, some without the financial means to get help to ease the burden, some who are enmeshed with all the lives they are supporting.
Our society has many mixed messages with how we care for our elders. And for each other, for that matter. So many thoughts – to share at a later time.
Know that as I need to stay close to family with only enough extra space to take care of our Living with the Angels membership and classes already in session, you remain in my heart.
Every day, I pray for you, a bearer of Light in this world that is changing at warp speed. Know that wherever you focus your mind and heart, magnificent things happen. Magic happens.
Together, we CAN make this world the precious, loving place we feel within.
I look forward to connecting with you soon.
With love,
Rev. Elvia
