In the self-help and metaphysical realms, we often hear about the Law of Attraction and how the direction of our thoughts and actions affects what we receive in return. The rise in awareness of this principle has been a gift and has also had its shadow side because the ego can latch onto this grand idea that all we have to do is to change our thoughts and actions to control what we create. Think rich, believe in the power of the Benz and that’s what’s a’coming. There is truth in this, but it goes much, much deeper – and becomes far more powerful for the experience of happiness – when you approach the Law of Attraction from the soul level.

Here’s why…
Through the framework of karma, our soul gets what our soul gives. It may be over a period of lifetimes, but what our soul does to give, nourish and feed all Creation, manifests its experiences in return. Whether or not you believe in karma per se, think how that can change choices…actions.

Do much good in this lifetime and it’s money in the bank for the next one. (Although if the intention is focused on the deposit side of things to avoid a lifetime of hell next go around versus a pure desire to serve the greater good with love…understand that the ego has gotten in the way.)

On the other hand, if you slip easily into the mindset, “If I skimp, cheat or mis-align on this one thing today, I know I’ll be fine.” That may seem cool when the context is just this lifetime, but when you expand to consider that you’re potentially affecting a lifetime, an experience beyond this one…it becomes a more weighted decision that can have a more impactful outcome. Because who are you really skimping, cheating or mis-aligning anyway? It’s not the other people involved. It never is. It’s about you. You and your relationship with God.

If you’re at all familiar with the Human Design system, you’re likely aware that there are 5 “types” of design energies – Generator, Manifesting Generator, Projector, Manifestor and Reflector. I’m not going to go all Human Designy here, except to say two things.

First, Human Design been one of the most profound tools for self-discovery that I’ve encountered and helped me to understand myself and my personal relationship with angel communication. It had to work really hard to win me over, but it’s been about 12 years now, so you could say we’re BFFs.

Second, in Human Design, I am a Generator and a core part of my strategy to be successful in this world it to respond. In my Monday morning contemplation time this week, I was thinking about how these two concepts interrelate. As I think about what I’m here to respond to, it has to be something that shows up directly in my reality. How does something show up directly in my reality? One could argue it’s karma that’s bringing it to me. My karma is attracting it. My inner Goddess knows it’s what I need and so delivers it up like a loving parent.

There’s a cycle. My good karma has created good things for me to respond to. My murky and challenging karma has created murky and challenging things for me to respond to.

It’s all good and here’s where the angels are chiming in…it’s about ownership. Owning that our actions begin and end with our intention to do good – or not. How can we help? How can we serve? How can we love? These are questions to be perpetually answering to create sustainable happiness.

And so it is.
