What’s churning within?

If you’re at more of a ripening age, like me, chances are good you’re witnessing friends, family and neighbors facing their twilight years. Perhaps you’re even feeling it coming on for yourself and are experiencing the rattling of a new phase of life. As my step-mother used to say in her sing-songy voice, “Life on the golden slide.” Which she would follow with a nearly inaudible sigh and then a melodic, “Dee dee dee dee deeeeeeee!”

In recent years, people I’ve known forever to be vibrant, strong, immortal even are suddenly more fragile, softening, appreciating the connections and meeting those encounters with first ever seen tears. Tears expressing appreciation for the moment. The simple conversation in the now. Reflection.

There is a desire hardwired within all of us – to pass from this Life to the Infinite Beyond and feel complete when it happens. To believe that we’ve been good people. For any relationships disharmonies to be forgiven. To feel with confidence that we’ve done all we could to leave the world a better place.

To have done what we came here to do.

I remember visiting my parents at the nursing home. Between them, they were there for several years, so I spent a good amount of time with men and women at the end stage of life. I got to know some of them a little.

The guy who asked every woman passing by if she’d marry him. There was his daily request of lobster for supper followed by groans when instead he was served chicken and mashed potatoes. He often made some less-than-appropriate remarks…we can chalk it up to dementia, but glimmers of his prior life were there.

Another sweet woman I got to know, Beatrice, was quite lucid although her body was failing. She enjoyed her routines and would sit for an extra hour sipping coffee after lunch with the few others – her friends – who could carry a conversation. She was my mother’s roommate for a short spell, but my mother’s dementia was a bit much with her middle-of-the-night antics. Beatrice moved down the hall.

There were several residents who were grumpy, angry and alone. Thankfully my parents were not among them as they always managed a cheerful demeanor with gratitude for what they were given. But these other souls…when I looked in their eyes, I could tell there were words unspoken, regrets, heartbreaks that never healed.

As we approach a certain age, a certain phase, the churning within may turn up a notch. It may become palpable. It may even start screaming. Because while most humans like to ignore the truth that we are all progressing towards the proverbial “dirt nap”, it’s inevitable.

Two things, right? Death and taxes.

The topic of aging, death and dying is not an easy one. And yet, it’s relevant for all of us. Even if you’re destined to live to 120. It’s going to happen.

Our angels help steer us on the path of peace….the road of no regrets. A feeling of completion. A knowing that everything is as it should be.

You deserve this. No churning. No regrets. Peace. Tranquility. The support of your angels.
