The intention of this card spread is to provide insight on where you came from – who you were and have gracefully (or not!) left behind in 2025, what character traits are currently emphasized in the present moment and finally what you will be embodying and need to know for the future of 2026.
Step 1: Choose a deck, guided by your angels. Any deck is good so long as your angels agree. (I can’t emphasize how important this is – the right deck is as important as the right card.)
Step 2: Shuffle the cards until your angels say stop and then pick 3 cards and lay them face down with the 1st card pick on the left, 2nd in the middle and 3rd on the right.
Step 3: Turn the cards over one by one.
Card 1 = who you were (2025)
Card 2 = who you are
Card 3 = who you will be (2026)
When I did this for myself using The Guardian of the Night Tarot by MJ Cullinane, I admit I wanted to put one of the cards back, lol. Of course, that would not be good practice, so I took a breath and carried on knowing that my angels would explain.
For me…
Card 1 = The Hanged Man. A card about pausing, rethinking, contemplation. Visually, it shows someone upside down. The message? My world was turned upside down in 2025 – in good ways personally and hard ways collectively. Life feels almost unrecognizable from a year ago. Reorientation has been a theme.
Card 2 = 4 of Pentacles. Holding tight to resources. Protecting that which supports me, including my body, and guarding it closely. I know I am still physically recovering from our move and the closing of our house sale just two weeks ago. Don’t over do it is the message for my present self.
Card 3 = 8 of Swords. This is the one I wanted to put back. It’s “one of those” cards and in this position tells a story about the future. Anxiety, feeling trapped – although it’s of my own doing, because part of the card’s imagery is that there is a way out, a path through. In this particular deck, there is a crescent moon in the center and She is surrounded by 3 owls and clouds that insulate the moon from the swords around the perimeter. The message is that I am called to trust my intuition deeply, follow the moon’s cycles and listen to Her whispers to know the path through any darkness. The Moon is my center. (Note: I probably wouldn’t have gotten that bit from another version of this card.)
