As I started to write for you this month, the angels whispered “faith. Let’s talk about faith.”
Fits with the Full Moon energy, so let’s do it!
As I settled in, I had a memory flow in about a summer tradition my mother and I had starting when I was about 6.
In 1966, a classical music festival was created in Newport, RI. For two weeks every year in July, musicians from all over the world would visit this famous seaside city and perform their art in mansions from the Gilded Age. The Breakers. The Elms. Rosecliff. …
With terrace doors open, an ocean breeze, views to die for and music that tapped into lesser recognized emotions and cellular memories, we were transported to another place and time.
My mother and me.
For several afternoons every year, dressed in our best we sat in a gilded room watching and listening to pianists play Haydn, cellists play Chopin, a harpsichordist bring Bach to life.
It was magical.
Full transparency, at 6, 7, 8, 9 yo, I was not always excited to sit for two hours. I didn’t love all of the music.
But, I did love the ritual. The moment away from everyday life. Immersion into a different world. Time alone with my dear mother.
A tear forms in my right eye as I write about this. I don’t often miss her in a sad kind of way, because she’s so much a part of me, but I do miss her right now. I miss this tradition she built for us.
Need a fresh cup of coffee to make clear the connection between this and our topic of faith. Hold please…
I think where I want to go with this is to invite you to ponder your relationship with faith.
Consider…
How do you define faith, personally? (Try and let your heart answer that question.)
When does your faith feel strongest? If someone you love (or even you) gets a rough diagnosis, do you – generally speaking – pull away from your angels or does it draw you closer? Both can be true too, moment to moment. We’re looking for themes.
What assumptions/beliefs do you have about the role faith plays in your life?
Faith built on sand is faith founded on the belief that our faith gives us something in return. “If I believe in God, life will be easier because I’ve proven my goodness.” True in some ways, but the conditional nature of this belief is exactly counter to what faith is by definition.
For faith to be faith, it has to be built on unconditional belief in the Divine. It cannot be transactional.
Faith is never a bargain with God. “I’ll be a good person and nothing bad will happen.” It doesn’t work that way.
Strong faith understands and works to accept that life is hard and we are all destined to face nightmare situations. And yes, that sucks.
Yet… faith gives us access to a whole realm of otherworldly support. 4 legs to stand on and wings to forge through. It gives us our own Merlin to advise, our own Mother Mary to comfort. It gives us our own Kali to stand strong and our own Archangel Raphael for healing.
We can all communicate with our angels and spirit guides, but if we don’t have faith in them, their guidance isn’t accessible.
Ultimately, when we don’t have faith, we aren’t asking for help. And we all need help. Many times from angels wearing human skin… always from angels on high.
True faith is a deep, expanding, evolving knowing that we have support from a Source of love and wisdom that knows no bounds.
When fear starts to surface, Faith whispers, “Shhhh, you’ve got this and we’re here to help.”
None of us have faith that never wobbles – why we need community and like minded friends and family to hold that space in weaker moments while we get back on our faith feet.
One of my favorite mantras: I believe.
I think that’s it for now. As I bring this to a close, I ask my winged friends, “What does all this have to do with summer concerts with my mother?”
Their reply, “Nothing! It’s just a really nice memory. And perhaps you should think about catching a performance yourself this summer.” 😇
