Scorpio demands truth, honesty, diving deep into the subconscious realms. It can be ruthless, violent, terrifying, uncomfortable at best. And yet, it can also be hugely liberating as it leads us to fresh perspectives.

The image that comes to mind is birth itself. A baby leaves the safety of the womb and endures a dramatic, even traumatic, passage through the birth canal. When it arrives and takes its first breath in the arms of its caregiver, the watery womb fades to the past. The infant has crossed a threshold.

Scorpio helps us with this – moving from one reality to the next. Often whether we want to or not.

Taurus, on the other hand, wants peace, stability, safe sanctuary. It wants the womb… for as long as possible, maybe even forever – the opposite of Scorpio.
 
When the two luminaries come into opposition in these signs, we are called to look at how/where we’re stuck in life, where we’ve become rigid – perhaps so much so that we can’t see it. Old patterns lie hidden. Ways we’ve been seeing ourselves that our souls have outgrown. The Moon Mother steps forward in her nurturing, stark naked, boldly true essence to shine the light on those obstructed parts of ourselves with relentless honesty, urging us to let go.

I’ve been studying Evolutionary Astrology with Steven Forrest the past few years. Last weekend, I had the privilege to attend a 4-day workshop with him in San Diego on the Moon. Four days talking about La Lune. 🌕 When the lunar cycle reaches the Full Moon point, whatever seeds that were planted at the New Moon have come to fruition. Not always (often) as planned, but come to fruition they do. True for the monthly cycle and also true for the 28 year cycles we all experience through an astrological technique called progression analysis.

So at the Full Moon – whether through our monthly experience or through the larger life-defining cycle, we have the unique opportunity to reflect on what we’ve created. What’s worked? What hasn’t worked as expected? And as the Moon begins to wane, we begin to let go. We begin to release. We are encouraged to reflect on how those seeds grew, what we’ve learned and where the soul wishes to go next.

Life is a never-ending cycle of beginnings and endings. As needed, we always have the choice to choose differently next for the next cycle.
