Last week was Mother’s Day and I’m guided to continue with a different take on the topic of what it means to be a mother, because being a mother, mother figure, mentor or parent to anyone is arguably the extra very most important role any human can have.
In the past week there has been a theme with people posting as well as reaching out for help about their children, mostly either adult or almost-adult children. (Nod to those parenting before-adult children. Challenges there too and prayers sent. 🙏🏻)
I can’t even imagine how hard it must be to look towards the future right now from the age of 20 something. Clearly very different from what it was back in 1981.
The rising generations are profoundly inspiring with all they are endeavoring to change in our world to usher in greater compassion for humanity as well as sustainability. They need a boatload of support from mamas and everyone in their respective support camps. (Special prayers for those who don’t have a support camp. May one find them and may they know love. 💜)
Some of these changes the younger ones are insisting upon can also be hard for us longer-timer folks to understand, to comprehend. Let’s take the concept of gender as an example.
For me, gender has been the simply defined gender for most of my life. A girl is a girl and a boy is a boy.
We are being shown (led) that the definition of gender is evolving. It could be easy to judge that this is not a healthy evolution and I’ve sometimes wondered if it’s confusion spun out of an unwell society where people are assaulted and afraid to be themselves – an effeminate male, a masculine woman, a woman. A man who loves a man. A woman who loves a woman.
All this is familiar to me. Changing pronouns is not.
Humans – by definition – are fearful of change. Especially change that feels so foundational. And yet it’s happening, whether we’re on that train or not.
My daughter who considers herself to be non-binary explained the gender evolution in a way I finally understood. She said, “Gender is simple anatomy. Like you have blue eyes and Dad has brown. Just because Dad has brown eyes, we don’t define him differently.”
I jump to… so what about the ability to conceive and give birth? We’ve changed that with IVF and the angels flash “cloning” through my consciousness.
It’s all changing and bottom line is that there are some (many?) things we really don’t know.
Perhaps this is all part of the realization that we are ALL One. Regardless of color, gender identification, economic status…perhaps these rising generations are taking us on a path of Love that knows absolutely no bounds.
And maybe some of these changes happening are healthy and maybe some of them aren’t. We don’t know.
We don’t know, because no one human has the ability to see all the parts of Humanity’s evolution.
At the end of the day, the only thing that matters is that we support our beautiful rising generations as best we can.
Love them up, down and all around and trust in the process. Even when we don’t understand.
This transition we are in the thick of, is challenging for most everyone. As we continue to breathe peace, help one another and be there for our children, we are doing our job.
